While the body style still hasn’t changed since this 2nd Gen Sequoia was released back in 2010, these new upgrades to bring a modern look and feel to this large SUV. In addition to the suspension upgrade, the 2020 Sequoia gets its share of TRD Pro styling updates.
Also, finally, the Sequoia gets an updated infotainment suite, and as of 2020 will support Android Auto, Apple Carplay, as well as Amazon Alexa. Of course the TRD Pro Sequoia also gets Black TRD Pro leather-trimmed seats with red contrast stitching and “TRD Pro” stitched into the front headrests, plus TRD Pro all-weather floor mats. Other amenities include Smart Key with Push Button Start, 8-way power driver’s seat, power tilt/slide moonroof, and tri-zone automatic climate control with separate rear-seat controls.
Outside the truck (yes, this is still a body-on-frame truck), we’ll get a TRD Pro front skid plat, aluminum side-steps, and a TRD Pro roof rack. Clearly Toyota wants us to know that this 2020 TRD Pro Sequoia is meant for adventure.
To get into the weeds a bit though, let’s go over the suspension details. The information we have doesn’t mention any suspension lift for the truck, but the new Fox Shocks front & rear will be useful on the trail. Tuning on each TRD Pro’s shocks is unique, and the front 2.5-inch Fox shocks on Sequoia include 7 compression zones and 2 rebound zones. TRD engineers also reduced the front spring rate on Sequoia TRD Pro to improve its off-road compliance. The front shocks provide an increase in rebound travel of 18mm, perfect for getting out on the trail.
For the rear suspension, Sequoia TRD Pro employs 2-inch-diameter Fox piggyback monotube shocks that feature bottom-out-control technology, which will increase damping force for improved bottoming resistance. The 2-inch Fox units feature larger 47mm pistons (15mm larger than stock) and beefier shock rods that are 3.2 mm larger in diameter.
